The national reading marathon is being organized for the 9th time. The works of one of the greatest artists of our literature is presented each year during this marathon. We mark the 100th anniversary of Magda Szabó’s death (1917-2007) on the 21th of February, 2017. We read out the works of an outstanding 20th century author of our literature. Thank you all, who joined us during this marathon in any parts of the world!
This year the number of the participants according the previous summarization is 31.346 in 10 countries and more than 160 settlements. This year the number of the readers will be 28000 (27.911) in Romania. Nearly 200 institutions and organizations will take part in the public reading on Transylvania’s and Székely Land’s settlements, including the remote dispersal area and Bucharest. The number of the foreign readers is 3500.
Only in Harghita County, about 17.000 (16.992) people in 60 settlements and in about 200 institutions will we read Magda Szabó’s works out on this day. The opening ceremony started at 10 o’clock in the morning in the lecture hall of the Kájoni János County Library of Harghita that served as the major locale of the reading marathon. An exhibition of Magda Szabó’s works welcomed the participants.
